December Nights (formerly Christmas on the Prado)

Probably the biggest San Diego holiday celebrations are what’s now called “December Nights” in Balboa Park (the event used to be called “Christmas on the Prado”). 300,000 people are estimated to attend them over two days.

We went there this past Saturday and had a terrific time. Balboa Park has very limited parking. Our game plan was to get there early in the morning and spend a few hours at the zoo. It worked beautifully (hint: those who tried to drive in later in the evening got stuck in horrible miles-long traffic jams that would just inch along).

Here are a few photos for you to enjoy:

A Gorgeous Day in La Jolla

It was a gorgeous day today in La Jolla. We went for our usual walk at La Jolla Cove. The light, the water, and the sunset were all stunningly beautiful. The sea was very calm, reminding me a lot more of a gentle lake than the Pacific Ocean.

Here’s a slideshow of my favorite photos from this afternoon:

Rented Christmas: Newspaper Coverage

One of my publicity photos of Rented Christmas was featured rather nicely in the North County Times, one of the largest local newspapers (~78,000 daily print circulation, ~635,000 monthly online visitors). They published a long list of theater offerings for the holidays, but the photo was one of only four pictures accompanying the article, and it was the one showing by default (the others are hidden behind thumbnails).

Rented Christmas: PR Photos

The next play of the Village Church Community Theater is rapidly approaching. “Rented Christmas” is the story of a single businessman (nowadays we’d call him a workaholic) who hasn’t had any family life for years. He walks past the sign of a rental shop that says “We Rent Anything”. So, he decides to rent a Christmas, with tree and presents, a wife and five children!

If you are in Southern California, come see the play performed the first weekend of December at the Village Church in Rancho Santa Fe (details here).

On Sunday, I shot some PR photos to go with news releases in the local papers. Below is a small selection. I am back from actor to photographer for this play, so you’ll be seeing more coverage of this production. I must say I was tempted to audition for this one, since it’s a musical and we do very few of those, but after having had leading roles in the last two plays, I really needed to take a break.

Wedding Anniversary Slideshow

I don’t much like air travel, but I had to fly to New Jersey for business for the past week. One advantage of cross country flights is that they afford me extra time for projects that I might otherwise not have gotten to. So, on this last trip, I made an animated slideshow of photos from the golden wedding anniversary surprise reception I blogged about before.

Click on the image below to go to my wedding slideshow page, and then select the last thumbnail from the play list. While you’re there, you might even want to watch some of the other wedding slideshows as well!
